This page has been updated to reflect improvements made in system update 1.4.22, deployed in October 2026.
Use this menu to review, edit or delete any of the events in your schedule. To clear the schedule, you must go to the Settings menu.
After you have modified your schedule, the system will wait for a pause in user activity and finish playing events scheduled at the current time before applying the your changes. Gears appearing in the top right status icon indicate that the modified schedule has not finished processing. You can make further changes while the gears are displayed, but wait until the status icon is clear before viewing upcoming events.
Schedule changes may result in scheduled Almanac concerts to play different songs than appeared before modifications, even if those events were not changed.
Scheduling basics
The scheduling screens for Weekly, Monthly, Annual and One Time events are for adding new events to these schedules. Use the Schedule Review screen to see what is already programmed.
Typical schedules
Here are some examples of typical ringing events and how to set them up.
- Daily musical concerts
- Use Schedule - Weekly Event. Choose the number of songs to play from SmartAlmanac selected music.
- Anniversary concerts
- To play a person's favorite hymn on their birthday, use Schedule - Annual Event. Search for the title after selecting User Selected music/ringing.
- Call to worship or call to Mass
- Schedule a swinging bell to ring at a service time, use Schedule - Weekly Event. Select User Selected music/ringing and then search for swing. Choose a bell and duration from the list before adding it to your service times.
- Clock striking
- Always use the Schedule - Time Strike menu to create, modify and review your time strike schedule. Avoid adding quarters and hour tolls from other scheduling pages.
- Angelus and prayer bells
- Always use the Schedule - Angelus menu to create, modify and review your Angelus schedule.
Scheduling screens
These screens are used to add more events to your existing schedule. You can review your existing schedule using the review screens.
- Weekly
- Schedule a weekly event to play music on a regular weekly basis, such as daily or every Sunday.
- Monthly
- Schedule a monthly event to play music on a regular monthly basis, such as the first Sunday of each month.
- One Time & Annual
- Annual events are often used to schedule memorial music, such as a person's favorite hymn to be played every year on their birthday. Specify the year to schedule a one time event to provide music for a unique, non-repeating occurrence such as a wedding or a funeral.
Each scheduling screen contains these elements:
- Clock hands
- To set the time of the event, you may tap or drag the hands of the clock or tap the number and choose from a drop-down menu.
- AM/PM selectors
- Make sure you have selected the proper 12 hour period. A warning will display if you have the clock set for late night or early morning.
- Start at time/End at time selector
- Start - The event will run forward from the time you specify.
- End - The time you pick is when the event finishes. Please review the caveats below.
- Day of the week (on weekly and monthly events)
- Choose which week day the event will occur.
- Week of the month (on monthly events)
- Choose which week in the month (1st, 2nd ~ 5th, Final) the event will occur.
- Calendar (on annual and one time events)
- Choose the date the event is to occur.
Choose selection
Above the Choose Selection button you will either see Almanac Music or Selected Title. Tapping the button brings up a search screen on which you can toggle between the following modes:
- Almanac Selected Music
- The programming screen allows you to select the number of songs or the duration of the program to be automatically played according to the current SmartAlmanac season.
- User Selected Music/Ringing
- The search bar becomes active when selecting this mode. Type any part of the selection to search the library, then select a song or ringing file from the results.
- You can audition the selection you searched for using the Play and Stop buttons at the bottom of the selection screen. Outside bells are muted while you do this.
Tap the check button to return to the programming screen to use your selection.
Event list
The window on the right (scroll down the page on Chime.Center) is like a "shopping cart" that collects the events you have created, allowing you to review them before "checking out." This list does not include any existing scheduled events.
Tap Add Selection to add your new event to the list. Add more events to the list by changing the date, time, or selection and tapping Add Selection again.
When reviewing the list, if you find a selection or a time that you didn't intend to add, you can remove the selection from the list by tapping the red trash can icon beside the event.
Tap the Save to Schedule button to "check out," adding this list to the current automatic schedule.
Configure time based ringing
Time strikes and Angelus prayer bell ringing schedules can be checked and modified using these screens.
Time Strike
Review and modify clock chiming and hour strikes:
- Select active hours
- Select active quarters and type of ringing
- Select clock chiming melody

- Optionally, select a second pattern, toll or swinging bells
- Select days and hours to ring

Review the schedule
Tap Schedule and use the following options to review your schedule.
- Review - Displays events that have been scheduled weekly, monthly, annual or one-time. This is the best way to see the outline of your program and what will play on a recurring schedule. Events can be deleted from this menu.
- Upcoming - Displays exactly what will play from your automatic schedule for the rest of the day today and tomorrow. This includes weekly, monthly, annual and one-time events, time strikes and any scheduled Angelus or call to worship. If you have chosen Almanac Selected Music, specific titles are shown in these two tabs. Please wait for the gears in the top-right status icon that indicate the schedule is rebuilding to clear before verifying upcoming events. Chime.Center's upcoming events screen allows you to check a range of days in the future to verify your Monthly, Annual and seasonal changes are going to happen as you expect.
- Played - Displays exactly what has already played on your ringing system, with the most recent at the top of the list.
Advanced topics
Our system will resolve conflicting events for you using a consistent set of rules. Knowing these rules helps you schedule confidently and get the result you intend. Whenever you make changes to your schedule, we recommend reviewing those changes using the "Upcoming Events" page, to verify that your changes give the results you expect.
Events that end at a time
Use end at time events to ring a call to worship bell or play a short musical concert that should end at the beginning of the service.
Avoid scheduling a lengthy end at time event in the weekly schedule, especially if it has the potential to overlap other weekly events, including time strikes and Angelus ringing. Without careful review of the schedule, it is possible to cancel normal events without intending to, or create a schedule where your new event does not play.
A Monthly, Annual, or One Time event set to End at Time is not dropped, it is given preference over any weekly events that it overlaps. That means it will cancel any of those overlapping events. This can result in several hours of events missing from your expected schedule. Be sure to check the events surrounding the time you plan to add a Monthly, Annual, or One Time event, and review your changes using the Upcoming Events page.
Event priority
Your system will handle events that start at the same time or overlap in the following ways:
Your carillon strikes the hour on time. Time strikes, chime melodies and the Angelus are given precedence over ordinary weekly music. They will not delete other weekly events from the schedule, but time strikes and prayer bells will delay the other weekly events. Even though the chime melody and hour strike are separate selections, they are always treated as one event. If either the chime melody or hour strike are cancelled due to another event, the other part of the time strike will also be cancelled. You will not hear half the time strike.
A Monthly, Annual, or One Time event (the "less frequent" event types) will take precedence over time strikes or Angelus bells in some situations. If one of the less frequent events overlaps the time a strike is scheduled, that strike will not play. Instead you will hear the less frequent event. If they are scheduled to start or end at the same time, you will hear both the time strike and the special, less frequent, event.
Within the weekly schedule
- 1 - The highest priority events are the time strike and Angelus prayer bells. By factory default, Angelus ringing will replace the time strike when ringing on the hour. The Chime.Center Angelus screen allows you to override this setting so that the Angelus will play after the time strike. Other weekly events scheduled on the hour or other quarters will play after the Angelus or time strike has completed.
- 2 - Specific selection titles set to start at time will play at their scheduled times unless they are scheduled at the same time as a time strike or Angelus (see priority 1).
- 3 - When two events are scheduled at the same time, there is no predetermined order in which they will play. If this is important to you, then schedule the secondary event one minute later to guarantee it is placed into the schedule as expected.
- 4 - Almanac music concerts scheduled with multiple selections or a specified duration that overlap time strikes or other ringing will play as requested. A time strike that is overlapped by almanac music is not guaranteed to play. They will only play if a pause in the music allows them to ring with no more than one minute of error. Other specific selections that are overlapped by the concert will play if a pause in the music allows them to ring within five minutes of their scheduled time (this may require a time strike to be present at the time the other selection is scheduled to play).
Lower recurrence events
Monthly, Annual and One-Time events will play alongside weekly events scheduled at the same time as a time strike. If scheduled at other times, the weekly event will be cancelled.
Monthly, Annual and One-Time events have priority over weekly events if they overlap. In that case, the weekly events will not be performed. Particularly, anniversary and birthday memorial music that are scheduled annually will replace any concerts that are scheduled at the same time in the weekly schedule.
Remember,
- The less frequent event does not have to be long to clear weekly events.
- When overlapped by less frequent events, weekly events are not delayed. Instead they are cancelled.
- Priority applies between a less frequent event (Monthly, Annual, One Time) and a weekly one, not between two weekly events.
Advanced reference
- You want several events to play at a given time in a particular order.
- Set the start times of each selection to be consecutive minutes. Even if the selections are longer than one minute, the system will sort them in the order you set, and each one will ring completely without interruption.
- You want a weekly event to be skipped on one special day.
- Schedule an overlapping event as Monthly, Annual, or One Time. The weekly program will automatically be skipped in favor of the special event.
- You want a short event to finish exactly at a time.
- Use End at Time, and remember it reserves the time before that point.
- You want a long funeral toll to finish at a specific time.
- Create the toll ahead of time using Chime.Center's custom ringing screen choosing a count and tempo that is suitable for the duration you desire (typically ten to twenty seconds between tolls). Schedule it as a One Time event with an end at time. All regular ringing will be replaced by the toll once it begins to ring.
- You want the Angelus and the time strike to both ring on the hour.
- While we believe this may confuse your neighbors, you can go to Chime.Center, open the Schedule → Angelus screen, then check the option to "Play Angelus after time strike" and save.
- You want no ringing at all for a period of time.
- Schedule an Automation Suspend or create a silent season on Chime.Center. Note that both the Automation Suspend and silent season do not allow you to play some events and silence others: they will silence everything within their active time, including any special event (Monthly, Annual, or One Time) inside it. You may be able to use the rules for special events overlapping weekly events to assist you in creating the schedule you need.
- You want no music, but normal ringing to continue for a period of time.
- Create an Almanac Season and do not add any musical albums to it. Do not check the boxes for Silent Season. No scheduled music will play during the period you set it for.
- You want to randomly select a song from an Album, such as Evening Hymns, to play rather than the current season's Smart Almanac music.
- Use the Chime.Center schedule editor to select Play Album Music then select the album and number of songs.
