A
- Album
- A collection of selection titles. Each album has music that is appropriate for specific musical styles, seasons or occasions.
- Almanac Selected Music Mode
- When you choose this, the music that plays will be selected from a seasonally appropriate list. Unless otherwise specified, the music will be shuffled so the songs don't always play in the same order.
- If you would like to schedule music to play regularly throughout the week, you can choose Almanac Selected Music so you don't hear the same repeating songs. Choosing Almanac Selected Music means that on the date and time you have chosen, a random selection will be made from seasonally appropriate music to make the most of our expansive library.
- For example, if you would like to hear a song every Monday at 7pm, you can schedule a specific title like Amazing Grace, and every Monday at 7pm, no matter the time of year, Amazing Grace will play. Alternatively, you can choose Almanac Selected Music. You will always hear a different song on Monday at 7pm. When in the Christmas season, the song Monday at 7pm will be a Christmas song. This happens automatically with all the seasons you have enabled. During days which are not holidays, appropriate general hymns and songs will be chosen.
- Angelus
- a pattern of tolls (3 - 3 - 3) to accompany a prayer. It can be followed by 9 tolls, a swinging bell or any number of songs. more
- Arrangement
- Factory music selections are broken down into the following five arrangement categories:
- Monophonic - melody only - suitable for any instrument, even the louder tolling bell instruments
- Simple - a few harmony notes with the melody - can be played on any chime or carillon instrument
- Three-Octave - artistically arranged for any carillon instrument
- FIve-Octave - embellished carillon arrangements with deep tones and soaring arpeggios
- Two-Part - melody on chime or carillon accompanied by an harp bell instrument
- Automation Suspended
- When your carillon is suspended, no scheduled Selections play. Manual operation will function as normal. Automation Suspended is indicated when the Power Button displays a red light. The status icon will also change to reflect that the Automatic Schedule is suspended. When the suspend mode is lifted, Ready mode will begin again; scheduled and manual operation will function as normal. The Power Button will return to amber.
- Call to Worship
- or Call to Mass, is often announced before the beginning of service by a swinging bell. The time is completely customizable but often, churches choose to start a one-minute swinging bell five minutes before service. Some churches choose to play music in addition to or instead of a swinging bell to call people to service.
- Any bell will remain in motion for a little bit after it is swung. Expect some time for the bells to decay naturally before the next event.
- Please note: If you are swinging real bells, it is our professional recommendation to wait two minutes before the next event to prevent harm to the bells and parts.
C - H
- Carillon
- An instrument of more than 22 bells.
- Check Mark
- Many menus have a white check mark button in the lower right corner. Tap the check mark to apply the changes you have made on this screen, otherwise your changes will be disregarded.
- Chime
- An instrument of 8 to 22 bells.
- Chime.Center
- Customer web portal that hosts web applications that will feel like a native mobile app and provide remote control and management access to our products.
- Concert
- a playlist of titles appropriate to the SmartAlmanac™ seasons.
- Dim
- The Display will dim to black after 30 minutes of user inactivity. This feature is only to save power; the automatic schedule will continue to play. The Power Button will remain amber to indicate normal status. Click it to wake the system.
- Display
- the touchscreen of the Advanced eXperience product. Most of your settings and preferences will be edited here. A light tap with your finger or a stylus is all that is required. Pressing on the display will only cause damage.
- Home Screen
- the first screen you see after entering your pin. Here you will find quick and easy access to the most commonly requested events. You can customize these buttons and add buttons depending on what is often required at your church or facility. The Home Screen can always be accessed by tapping Chime Master® in the Tool Bar.
I - N
- Instruments
- The Platinum AX includes refined recordings of over 15 styles of carillons, chimes, harps & tolling bells, founded in, and named for, locations all around the world.
- Additionally, the Platinum AX includes audio files recorded by professional musicians on bugle and bagpipe.
- Lock Screen
- When you see the digital or analog clock displayed over the whole screen, the AX system is locked. Tap anywhere and you will be prompted to enter your PIN. This unlocks access to the AX system and brings you to the Home Screen. To prevent others from making unwanted changes, you can manually lock your AX system anytime by tapping the lock icon on the Tool Bar. After 15 minutes of user inactivity, the AX system will lock automatically. After another 15 minutes, the screen will dim to black. This feature is only to save power; the automatic schedule will continue to play. The Power Button will remain amber to indicate normal status. Click it to wake the system.
- Millennium
- This line of Chime Master® carillons offers the same easy functionality and superb sound quality as the Platinum but with a few less options and a lower cost. It will soon be added to our Advanced eXperience platform.
- Music
- any title or utility ringing.
- Next
- Tapping Next will end whatever is playing and skip to the next title if there is something else scheduled to play at the current time.
- Any bell will remain in motion for a little bit after it is swung. Expect some time for the bells to decay naturally before the next event. The next function will never end anything abruptly.
- Please note: If you are stopping real swinging bells, it is our professional recommendation to wait two minutes before the next event to prevent harm to the bells and parts.
P - Q
- Peal
- A few pleasant-sounding bells (usually three or four) in motion together. Clearly a celebratory sound, a peal is often used at times such as Easter or weddings. Many professionally designed peals are included in your AX system or you can create your own. As you customize your own peal, keep in mind, not all combinations sound good together. Knowledge of musical theory is suggested.
- Any bell will remain in motion for a little bit after it is swung. Expect some time for the bells to decay naturally before the next event.
- Please note: If you are swinging real bells, it is our professional recommendation to wait two minutes before the next event to prevent harm to the bells and parts.
- PIN
- Personal ID number. Used on the front panel screen to login a user. Each user should have an individual login PIN to access features customized for them.
- Platinum
- This level of Chime Master carillons has the most options. It is available on several platforms including our newest, Advanced eXperience.
- Play Selection
- Choose any title to manually play now. If you want something specific to play within the next two minutes and it's not already assigned to a Quick Function button, use this menu instead of trying to add to your schedule last minute. Quick Play music will not recur. Choose one of the five Arrangements and an Instrument (both also in this glossary). If these settings are left at Default, your Arrangement Settings will be applied. The green play button will prompt you to play your selection. You may stack up as many songs as you'd like in this way.
- Note: If there is something already scheduled to play in your automatic schedule while you are playing music manually, it will be ignored and your manual selections will play instead. If you push the next button in this menu, it will play the next cued Manual Play title. When this list is exhausted, your next scheduled events will happen normally.
- Note: If your automatic schedule is in the middle of playing when you play a title manually from this menu, the current song will finish playing entirely. Then the Quick Play title(s) will play in the order they were cued. If you wish to skip the rest of the current song, press the next button and your manual selections will play now. If there is more scheduled music, it will resume after the Quick Play title(s).
- Power
- When you plug the Platinum AX into a power source, it will automatically turn on.
- The power button serves as a status light (see table below) and a functional button. While the AX system is on, one tap will dim or brighten the screen. Some devices read the QR code better from a dimmed screen. A double tap will function just like the stop button, gently ending all music scheduled at this time. It will briefly display a red light, to acknowledge that the command was accepted, then return to gold.
- To initiate the shutdown process, push and hold the power button until it turns red. (While the light is flashing lavender, one click will turn the button back to gold, cancel the shutdown process and return to the previous screen.) When it is safe to unplug the system, the light will be solid blue. Like a computer, this process is required for proper functionality. Unplugging the AX system without shutting down is not recommended; errors may occur.
- One click of the solid blue power button will restart the Platinum AX. When the power button is solid gold, it is ready to accept commands.
Color | Appearance | Meaning |
---|---|---|
Gold | Solid | Normal function, ready to accept commands |
Green | Flashing | Testing power and booting up |
Red | Solid | Activity is being canceled |
Lavender | Flashing | Shut down can be exited by clicking button |
Blue | Flashing | Shutting down and cannot be reversed |
Blue | Solid | Powered down, safe to unplug power cord |
- Please Note: As long as the AX system is powered down as instructed above, your schedule and settings will be automatically saved in permanent storage. When you restart your system, everything will still be the same. If you wish to clear your system, simply use the Clear Settings button under Settings. All scheduled events will be erased.
- Quick Functions
- Available on the Home Screen, these preset selections will play with a touch. This is the screen that will appear on the remote control device which can be customized for each user (depending on Chime Care/ Chime.Center subscription level). On the display or any touch screen, each Quick Function displays a confirmation message so any accidental commands can be dismissed.
- Quick Setup
- a guided process to program initial settings and a simple weekly schedule. This is presented first in any empty AX carillon. Further customization is available once these initial options are set. Throughout this menu, the default selection is the most common choice. You can access Quick Setup anytime to change all your settings at once but individual changes should be made in their own specific menus.
- If you would like to schedule music to play regularly throughout the week, you can choose Almanac Selected Music so you don't hear the same repeating songs. Choosing Almanac Selected Music means that on the date and time you have chosen, random yet seasonally appropriate music will play so you can take advantage of our expansive library.
- Please note: Random or Almanac Selected Music does NOT mean that music will play at random times. Only the days and times you have selected will sound.
S
- Schedule
- Music which will automatically play as a weekly, monthly, yearly or one time event. You may create or add to your schedule starting in the Quick Setup or using Create Event. You may view what is already programmed in Schedule Review.
- Season
- affects what music will play for random music events. Each season is associated with a holiday. Seasons can be enabled and disabled based on user preferences. When you enable a season, the random music during that time will be appropriate for the holiday. During days which are not holidays, appropriate general hymns and songs will be chosen.
- SmartAlmanac™
- After answering initial questions, the AX system knows what seasons and holidays you celebrate. Even Easter dates, daylight savings time and custom days are automatically recognized and any scheduled Almanac Selected Music will reflect that. Almanac Selected Music will always follow the SmartAlmanac™ unless otherwise noted.
- Please note: Random or Almanac Selected Music does NOT mean that music will play at random times. Only the days and times you have selected will sound.
- Status Icon
- This is displayed in the tool bar near the time. It represents the current state of the AX system. Tap the image to learn more about what it's currently doing.
- Stop
- Tapping Stop will end whatever is playing and will cancel anything else scheduled to play at the current time. The Power Button can be double-clicked to get the same result as Stop. It will briefly display a red light, to acknowledge that the command was accepted, then return to amber.
- Any bell will remain in motion for a little bit after it is swung. Expect some time for the bells to decay naturally before the next event. The stop function will never end anything abruptly.
- Please note: If you are stopping real swinging bells, it is our professional recommendation to wait two minutes before the next event to prevent harm to the bells and parts.
- Swing
- a single bell in motion, often used to call people to worship. A collection of swinging bells is called a peal.
- Any bell will remain in motion for a little bit after it is swung. Think of a child on a swing. Even after you stop pushing, they gradually come to a stop. Expect some time for the bells to decay naturally before the next event.
- Please note: If you are swinging real bells, it is our professional recommendation to wait two minutes before the next event to prevent harm to the bells and parts.
T - Z
- Tap
- Since the display is a touchscreen, you will be instructed to tap your options. A light tap with your finger or a stylus is all that is required. Pressing on the display will cause damage.
- Time Strike (or Hour Strike)
- A tolling bell can be used to strike the number of the hours. (i.e. 3 tolls at 3 o'clock) Additionally, you can choose to recognize the half hour or other quarter hours with a single strike. A time strike melody, like the Westminster, can proceed the hour strikes or play a fraction of the tune at the appropriate quarter.
- Title
- songs and hymns as opposed to functional bell patterns
- Toll
- a single, steady strike of a (typically) low-pitched bell. A tolling bell is often used to acknowledge a death. A tolling bell is also used to count the hour. The hour strike is traditionally a faster pace than a funeral toll.
- Tool Bar
- the line which stays at the top of the display and has these options: LOCK, MUTE - which toggles the inside monitor speakers through loud, soft and off (Extended Volume Settings can be configured under Menu and Settings), BACK, and CHIME MASTER - homepage. The date and time are displayed here as well as a status icon, also defined in the glossary.
- Tune
- the music of song, separate from the words. It is common for different texts to be sung to one tune and vice versa. For example, the tune Regent Square is commonly remembered as the Christmas Hymn, Angels From the Realms of Glory. Another set of lyrics titled, Easter People, Raise Your Voices can also be sung to the same tune. Without the words for reference on the bells, most of us hear a Christmas hymn.
- Most hymnals have an alphabetical index of song titles and first lines. Many times you will also find a tune name index.
- Utility Ringing
- purposeful bell ringing patterns such as a tolling bell or the Angelus.
